New “MaxFin” Antenna For ITS Trials With 2xDSRC & 1xGPS Unveiled By Mobile Mark

Itasca, IL – September 29, 2018 — Antennas designed by Mobile Mark have been used in DSRC (Dedicated Short Range Communication) trials around the world. These antennas have been popular for both V2V (vehicle-to-vehicle) and V2I (vehicle-to-infrastructure) applications.

It is with pleasure that we unveil our newest addition to our growing line of antenna solutions for ITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems) trials. Our new “MaxFin” style antenna combines two DSRC antenna elements with one GPS (or combination GPS/Glonass) element in a sleek case.

The new antenna is designed to optimize DSRC performance in Mobile Antennas used in ITS trials. It contains 3-antenna elements; two identical DSRC elements and one GNSS (either GPS-only or combination GPS/Glonass). Both DSRC elements are centered on 5.9-6.0 GHz and the GNSS element covers either GPS at 1575 MHz or combination GPS & Glonass at 1575 & 1602 MHz.

The DSRC antenna elements are uniquely placed to eliminate shadowing on these critical antenna elements, providing consistent and balanced coverage in all directions. Shadowing can also be caused by antenna position, so roof-mounting is recommended to eliminate any shadowing caused by the vehicle itself and to allow optimum line-of-sight signals.

The new antenna has been well received because it is compact and attractive, and it offers high performance. The antenna housing contains a stylish combination of matte & polished finish, providing a sleek, high-tech look on the vehicle.

The antenna elements all fit in this slim radome that measures only 7.5” long x 2.25” wide by 2.5” tall.

It offers solid performance across the bands with <2.1 VSWR. Average gain on the DSRC elements is 4 dBi gain, with a peak gain of 8 dBi. GPS gain is 5 dBic with 26 dB amplifier.

The antenna is also available in a mag-mount version; the mag-mount style is popular for system testing when the antenna needs to be moved quickly and easily from car to car.

Mobile Mark’s full range of DSRC antennas for ITS trials will be on display at ITS California, Anaheim, CA, October 1-2, 2018, in booth #209.
