ProAnt Hosts Master’s Thesis on Antenna Research in Sweden

Earlier this year, ProAnt began serving as the industrial host for the master’s thesis of Andreas Hillbom, a student in the Engineering Physics program at Umeå University in Sweden. Supervised academically by Professor Claes Beckman, his thesis, titled “Antenna Development for 6G FR3 Applications,” focuses on advanced antenna development as part of his master’s studies.

Based in Sweden, ProAnt is the European antenna engineering and manufacturing operation within the Mobile Mark family of brands. The team specializes in advanced RF design and customized antenna solutions across a range of wireless technologies. As the industrial host, ProAnt is providing engineering facilities, technical guidance, and practical design context in support of Hillbom’s work.

Exploring Emerging Spectrum Concepts

The thesis explores antenna considerations associated with frequency ranges currently being examined in early 6G discussions, including spectrum commonly referred to as FR3. Positioned between today’s sub-6 GHz and millimeter wave bands, these frequencies represent an area of ongoing technical study within the wireless industry.

Approaching the topic from an academic perspective, the project examines antenna design questions within this emerging spectrum space. International standards organizations such as 3GPP and International Telecommunication Union continue evaluating long-term framework directions, while research efforts like this contribute to broader technical understanding.

Supporting Education and Technical Curiosity

For ProAnt, serving as an industrial host reflects a commitment to supporting engineering education while engaging thoughtfully with emerging technical questions.

Supporting thesis research allows us to participate in early-stage technical exploration while contributing to engineering education,” says Jonas, Senior Manager of Product Innovation at ProAnt. “It gives students the opportunity to apply their academic knowledge in a real engineering setting, and we look forward to following Andreas’ progress over the coming months.
